Причем сумма, была пару раз больше стоимости часового проезда. И вот, набравшись смелости, написали в транспортную службу, дабы пояснили, какого же хрена бывает приходится платить больше трех евро по чип-карте за поездку, которая по времени меньше часа, и можно было купить часовой проезд за 2.90.

With the OV-chipkaart, you pay a fixed basic fare and then for the kilometres you actually travel. These are rounded to the nearest 100 metres. The difference in the calculation of the separate journey prices is caused by differences in these rounded distances. So if the route on the return journey is very slightly longer than the journey out, you may pay more for this. This could be because you travelled around the inside or outside of a bend, the platform for the return journey was slightly further than the platform on the journey out, you travelled on a different route or there was a diversion, for example.
